    Title: 玄奘的音譯原則-“五種不翻”

    Abstract: 自東漢至中唐約七百年之間,爲佛典漢譯的重要時期。其間傑出的譯經師輩出,而玄奘公認爲最偉大的翻譯家。他提出「五種不翻」的理論,亦即佛教名相的音譯原則,可供當今譯家的參考。本文並略述翻譯的重要及趨勢。

    The Chinese translation of Buddhist scriptures went through the important times during the c. 700-year period from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the middle Tang Dynasty. Outstanding translators of sutras then came one after another and, among them, Xuan Zang has been universally acknowledged as the greatest. He presented the theory of "The Five Kinds of Terms Not Translated," which virtually deals with the principles of transliteration of Buddhist terminology and may be serviceable to modern translators. The importance and trend of translation are also given briefly in this article,
