Family business is the largest type of business in Macau and even in the world. Many large enterprises in Macau are family businesses. Some scholars mentioned that ⎾ Ultimately, enterprise competition is the competition of talents⏌, so it is worth thinking how to increase the talent competitiveness of an enterprise, especially in Macau, a place usually considered to be short of talent. Although family business has many problems, the local family business is inferior to non-local family business in talent competition.
We use case studies to compare and analyse the human resource management of three family businesses in Macao, including local family businesses, Hong Kong-owned family businesses and US-funded family businesses through interviews and observations. We try to find out the reasons for the lack of talent competition in local family businesses and put forward corresponding policy recommendations.
This study found that family business not only influenced each other on the development and management thinking, corporate culture, the appointment and movement of personnel, top professional managers and the implementation of human resources management, but also on the human resources development and talent competitiveness.
Finally, this study made some recommendations for Macau family businesses, thereby to enhance the competitiveness of talents and the competitiveness of enterprises.
