The purpose of this paper is to analyze the Chinese character errors made by Japanese learners. The author indentifies three types of errors, as follows, substituting Japanese characters for Chinese characters, incorrectly written characters, and misused characters. On the basis of the error analysis and the conclusion of the categories of these errors developed a teaching plan and an experiment teaching with the applicaion of color stroke method. At last, comparing and analyzing the teaching results of pre-test and post-test,
The result showed that the error of substituting Japanese characters for Chinese characters is the highest proportion of error because of using negative transferring of Japanese characters. During the 120 hours of experiment teaching, learners’ errors in Chinese characters became less and less. The total error rate of the pre-test and post-test decreased from 40.3% to 7%. The application of colored stroke method is an effective way to Japanese learners.
