As destination attributes focused, there has been an obscure classification with respect to political destinations throughout the prior literature. Given the deficiency of such classification, we firstly typologized destinations as per political attributes. Secondly, we made a comparison between the differentiated properties and motivations of cross-strait tourists and hence explored their preferences to attractions with political attributes.
In this study, the attractions of political attributes were divided into three categories: (1) attractions related to political figures (2) attractions related to political events (3) attractions related to the central government. To analyze the preference levels of cross-strait tourists to the three types of political attractions, 313 research samples were gathered. The results manifested that (1) the levels of preference to political attractions were significantly different between tourists of Taiwan and PR China; (2) the cross-strait tourists tended to visit the political attractions relating political figures more frequently as a result of their familiarity and curiosity to the political figures in this regard; (3) under the interference from different political institution, the tourism motivations of cross-strait tourists generated various effects on the their preferences to political attractions. Ultimately, the study presented the conclusion and suggestions based on the empirical results.
