According to Edelman Trust Barometer, Indonesian people trust media more than the government. The media that Indonesian people use is divided into mass media and social media. Mass media used to be the main medium for citizens to obtain information about their government. However in recent years, social media has become another significant source for citizens to obtain information. Scholars in public management and political science have done numerous studies focusing on trust in government in many aspects. However, there were only few studies from journalism and communication scholars about the use of media and its effect on citizens’ trust in government.
The purpose of this research is to further the discussion of the use of social media and mass media in restoring citizens’ trust in their government.
