This thesis is on the piano piece, “Drei Intermezzi, Op. 117” of German composer, Johannes Brahms. The thesis consists of six chapters.
The first chapter introduces the motivations, objectives, scope, and methods of this study.
The second chapter presents an introduction of the composer and his background.
The third chapter consists of three sections on the musical characteristic of Brahms’ piano pieces, the piano works periods by Brahms, the style of Brahms’s characteristics pieces and “Drei Intermezzi, Op. 117”.
The fourth chapter includes an analysis, material, source, processing of harmony, patterns of rhythm and texture.
The fifth chapter discusses the interpretation and playing technique, then recommend the methods of playing on important sections.
The sixth chapter concludes discussions by integrating the results obtained in the previous chapters with commentary.
