Market mavens are individuals who have information about many kinds of products, places to shop, and initiate discussions with and respond to information requests from other consumers. With the growing competition and the increasing complexity of commercial information, interpersonal communication continues to be important to marketers. However, internet is the most convenient channel for the consumers to exchange product knowledge.
Therefore, in this research, I try to amend the traditional maven scale and apply it to the internet environment. Consumers scoring high on this scale are referred to as “internet mavens”. From a survey of 1165 consumers, I explore how those respondents ranked high on the maven scale differ in terms of their communication behaviors from those scoring lower on the maven scale. The result indicates that mavens are more likely to be male. They use the internet more frequently and have definitely different life style from the non mavens.
