Renaissance is the regeneration of the Western classical civilization and the beginning of modern civilization. Italian concrete construction can be divided into the early Renaissance (Fifteenth Century) and the peak Renaissance (Sixteenth Century). The political, economic change and concentration of wealth have promoted the pace of civilization evolution and become important factors for the development of urban civilization. The ancient constructions in the Renaissance began with the construction works of Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446), Florence in principle and became the characteristics of early Renaissance construction. Influenced by political and economic factors, the peak Renaissance later developed new construction in Rome, Italy, which gradually affected other areas, such as Venice, Genoa, and Milan and so on. The works by Ducato Bramante (1444-1514) in Rome in AD 1500-1514 was the characteristics of the beginning of the peak Renaissance and highly praised the “mannerism” of creativity and imagination as the title of the late Sixteenth-Century construction. The reproduction of the classical style, return to the basic principles and new ideas for architectural forms are the innovations of Renaissance construction; the proportion and the harmonious relationship are the basic principles; “occultism” and “Symbolism” are then imbued with original idea.
This study aims to conduct an in-depth exploration on the artistic style of Italian Renaissance construction from the perspective of the origins and development of the Italian Renaissance and to further understand the true meaning of the construction through human history, culture, economics, social impact and the development process. By studying the artistic style of Italian Renaissance construction, we can better understand the efforts of Western architects which can provide the new thinking of contemporary construction.
