Findings of current management literature reveal that work schedule is regarded as one of the key determinants on work efficiency and job satisfaction, which then makes the design of work schedule recognized as one important research issue. Meanwhile, it is also highlighted that concerns on decision power shift and perceptions of employees may make the quality of scheduling hard to be improved. However, it is surprisingly found that most studies on work schedule design are mainly based on rational, objective, and global optimized principals; less is paid on evaluation of personal judgment, which then results in a potential gap between current research focus and practical needs.
To bridge the research gap mentioned above, this study adopts the bidding ap-proach in the context of nurse work scheduling, in order to examine whether user par-ticipated approach may help lead to better job satisfaction. According to our experi-ments, it is found that the bidding approach may be feasible and helpful in improving the quality of nurse scheduling, with less time spent by the management in the mean-time.
