In recent years, Facebook has grown rapidly, and became a popular online social
network site. Facebook can help users keep up with their acquaintances. This study chooses Facebook, as the subject of this research. The purpose of this study is to observe the relationships between intensity of Facebook usage, well-being and social capital.
In this study we survey a representative sample of the members of the Facebook (a social network for Chinese Culture University students in Taiwan) , and we collected 733 questionnaires. Regression analyses conducted on results from a survey of undergraduate students suggest a strong association between use of Facebook and the three types of social capital, with the strongest relationship being to maintained social capital. In addition, Facebook usage was found to interact with measures of psychological well-being, suggesting that it might provide greater benefits for users experiencing self-esteem and life satisfaction.
