For the purpose of investigating the differences between the meaning of codes in media products, which is in the field of East-West cross-cultural communication, in This Study, by choosing the "environmental documentary" as a media products of the selected category ,and Expecting from which to explore the differences between East and West cross-cultural.
And the case study of documentaries which were chosen and resented the Eastern culture and Western culture as the research object in this study are :” An Inconvenient Truth” and “±2℃” .
To achieve the purpose,this study integrates” Semiology(Structuralism)”,” Semiotics” and” Intercultural Communication” as the theory ,and using "Text analysis" to analysis the documentary ,in order to complete detailed the structure of. Study.
Through analysis of studies,there are 7 Conclusions be found:
1. the narrative structure of ” An Inconvenient Truth”,which Performance the Western cultural characteristics "respect individualism” and expects the audience to think independently.
2. he narrative structure of “±2℃”,which Performance by stimulation and emotional elements of the video to make audience Resonate the issue and Highlight the "introspection" of culture characteristics.
3. When “Environment and Ecology” as the Cultural codes,it is an existence of "Passive and rational" in interruption of ”An Inconvenient Truth” ;in the other hands, it is a subjective sense of "life symbol" in interruption of “±2℃”.
4. When “Humans” as the Cultural codes, it is the “Masters of the world” in interruption of ”An Inconvenient Truth” ;in the other hands, it is “the one who controlled by world” in interruption of“±2℃”
5. the codes from ”An Inconvenient Truth” shows culture view in “Emphasis on rational logic” and” Individualism”.
6. the codes from“±2℃”shows culture view in “Serious emotional dependence” and” Nationalism”.
