    Abstract: 呂緝熙於清嘉慶年間,以所學自推論出有氣論一脈,足與心即理的王學,性即理的朱學鼎足為三。本文首揭明形氣生於元氣,形氣與元氣只有形態之異,但本質可以一氣相通,形氣亦具主體義。理乃氣之理,則以為氣是主體,理只是氣主體之自然條理,理不再具有主體義。氣既為主體,道亦降為氣化之過程與作用,不再是本體。本體只以氣言,道、理皆降為氣本體內在之道、理。及氣本體內化於形氣中,則生生知覺作用轉為心,形氣心之發用表現,便是氣質之情與性。性的內涵,則接續氣本論諸家說法,由氣質層來說性,氣性中善惡皆具,故善不由性言,善由氣質之為善來定義。亦即義理在氣質之中,非孤懸於氣質外之另一形上價值。氣質之偏勝人雖有異,但皆以氣質為性,則是氣本論諸家主張性相近之共義。而抑性中之惡揚性中之善,使性之道德內涵日益豐美盛大,則點出性可增損之特色。
