This research project were to analyze the collectively performance, including offensive and defensive in-game statistics, of the top 4 teams of the 2013 Women’s Asia Basketball Championship Tournament. These in-game performance was categorized into 5 major categories, which were “shooting-related skills (including 2 point field goal attempt, 2 point field goal made, 3 point field goal attempt, 3 point field goal made, Free Throw attempt, and Free Throw made)”, “scoring-related skills (including 2 point field goal percentage, 3 point field goal percentage, Free Throw percentage, and total Assists)”, “non-scoring-related skills (including Offensive Rebounds, Turnovers, Fouls, and Shot-blocks)”, “Defensive skills (including Defensive Rebounds, Steals, and Shot-blocks given)”, and lastly, “Total Points Scored”. Collected from the Top 4 teams of the tournament, these statistics mentioned above are firstly analyzed by the method of “One-way ANOVA”, and later used the Scheffe’s approach to precede cross-examinations and comparisons, with a set criterion of α < .05. The research showed that the Chinese Taipei Team has the fewest total points scored and most points allowed; the ability to score was closely related to the “Scoring-related skills” and “Shooting-related skills”; the effectiveness of “Defensive skills” is a determinant factor to total points allowed. Because the “Defensive skills “are corresponding to total points allowed (as commonly known, the fewer points given means greater chance to win), hence, the most important issues are: increasing the defensive intensity to lower opponent’s shooting percentage; improving the rebounding skill (box-out) to solidify the defensive rebound protection. Meanwhile, regarding the “non-scoring-related skills”, in order to raise the number of Offensive rebounds, forwards must also put in efforts on the rebounding category; finally, regarding the Turnover reduction, it would require specific skill training to improve the overall status. |
