This study focus on selecting the best peak of illite polytype and applies the characteristics of illite polytype on different lithologies, and finally, it establishes the database in Taiwan.
This study analyzes the argillite, slate, silty slate and meta-sandstone in the Backbone Range belt (Chingshui Geothermal Field-Tuchang) and Hsuehshan Range belt (Wuje) by X-ray diffraction. These results shown that 2M1 pattern is (114), (025), (115), (116̅), (131), (202); 1M pattern is (112̅), (112), and 1Md pattern is (020), (113). The sources of illite crystallinity are 2M1 and 2M1+1M about meta-sandstone, and silty-slate and slate in the Hsuehshan Range belt (Wuje). The sources of illite crystallinity are 1M+1Md, and 2M1+1M+1Md about argillite, and slate and meta-sandstone in the Backbone Range belt.
