Kinderszenen op.15 is one of the most representative works by Robert Alexander Schumann (1810-1856). Composed of 13 piece suites, Kinderszenen op.15 is inspired by the composer’s memories of childhood, a piano cycle which at the time was quite novel and prominent. To this day it is still one of the works that classical piano learners often study. Therefore, this thesis will explore in depth this cycle in order. First, it will research into the characteristics of the Romantic song cycle and Schumann's piano cycle, then relationship, and the compositional background and influence of Kinderszenen. A detailed analysis of compositional methods and harmonic is Kinderszenen will follow. Finally, a reasonable interpretation of the music will hopefully be concluded based on the above analysis.
