Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German musician of the Romantic era, yet his compositions are deeply rooted in the essence of classical music. This thesis aims to explore Brahms' two Rhapsodies Op.79, analyzing aspects such as their historical context, compositional techniques, melodies, harmonies, rhythms, and structural forms, and to provide appropriate performance interpretations.
The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter serves as an introduction, discussing the research objectives, motivations, scope, methods, steps, and processes. The second chapter provides an overview of Brahms' two Rhapsodies Op.79, including insights into the historical context in which these two Rhapsodies Op.79 were composed. The third chapter digs into the structure of these pieces, offering a musical analysis of their elements and suggesting interpretations for performance. The fourth and final chapter is the conclusion, which synthesizes the analysis and distinctive features of these two compositions to propose more suitable interpretations.
