In today's rapidly changing social environment, adolescents face increasing challenges and pressures. Particularly, middle school students are at a critical stage of physiological, psychological, and social development. Their interpersonal relationships and emotional states have profound effects on their overall development. This study aims to explore the relationships among interpersonal relationships, social support, and negative emotions in middle school students. Additionally, it examines whether there are significant differences in these variables based on gender and grade, with a specific focus on the moderating role of social support. To achieve these objectives, this study utilized a questionnaire survey method, collecting 446 valid questionnaires from middle school students in Taipei City for statistical analysis. The research findings are as follows:
1. The intimacy with family members in middle school students' interpersonal relationships is significantly negatively correlated with negative emotions such as anxiety and depression.
2. The intimacy with online friends in middle school students' interpersonal relationships is significantly positively correlated with negative emotions such as anxiety and depression.
3. Family support is significantly negatively correlated with negative emotions, particularly depression.
4. Family support can effectively moderate the relationship between interpersonal relationships (intimacy with family members and peers) and negative emotions (anxiety). Peer support can effectively moderate the relationship between interpersonal relationships (intimacy with peers and online friends) and negative emotions (anxiety). Family support can also effectively moderate the relationship between interpersonal relationships (intimacy with peers) and negative emotions (depression). Peer support can effectively moderate the relationship between interpersonal relationships (intimacy with peers) and negative emotions (depression).
