In this paper, we explore the current situation of local revitalization in Daxi District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, and take the Daxi Tea Factory as a central case for analysis. Daxi is a well-known tea town in Taiwan with a long history of tea cultivation and processing. Daxi Tea Factory has witnessed this land's long and rich tea culture.
Daxi Tea Factory once faced closure due to changing times. However, in recent years, under the promotion of local revitalization, the Daxi Tea Factory has been preserved and transformed into a tourist factory. This paper introduces the historical and cultural background of Daxi Tea Factory, including its founding process, precious century-old tea processing equipment, and the use of natural farming methods for tea garden management, highlighting its inheritance and development of traditional tea culture.
Currently, Daxi Tea Factory attracts 150 to 200 thousand visitors annually. Through guided tours and experiential courses, the entire tea-making process and the essence of tea culture are showcased to the public, becoming a representative of local culture in Taoyuan. In the future, Daxi Tea Factory plans to develop more diversified operation models, such as tea ceremony experience areas and tea point courses that incorporate local ingredients. We hope it will become a cultural and creative industry hub and inject new vitality into the Daxi Old Street area.
In addition to the Daxi Tea Factory, the paper also introduces other achievements of local revitalization in the Daxi District, such as the revitalization of Daxi Old Street, the transformation and marketing of the Daxi tofu industry, and the inheritance and development of Daxi wood carving. Through preserving and revitalizing historical and cultural resources, promoting local characteristic industries, and improving tourism and leisure facilities, Daxi has successfully created a new image of "Charming Daxi Township."
The local revitalization movement in Daxi District revolves around elements such as tea culture, traditional crafts, and local industries. Through the joint participation of the government, the private sector, and residents, it has effectively revitalized Daxi's unique cultural assets, injected new economic momentum into the locality, promoted industrial transformation and upgrading, and improved the quality of life. However, some limitations and challenges faced during the revitalization process, such as insufficient tea production due to limited self-owned tea garden areas and the difficulty of inheriting traditional skills, must be addressed and improved.
