Abstract:	大地震造成生命財產損失更是難以估計。地球科學界一直以地震預測發生當作致力的目標，而至今仍難以實現。因此，本計畫從了解斷層特性的角度切入，並以台灣東部活動斷層為主。從微觀尺度到大區域地質尺度，藉由調查斷層異質性，進一步了解斷層摩擦行為與地震之間的機制，以及慢地震的隱示。預期本研究能(1)發展岩石變形實驗並更加了解花東縱谷斷層地震的機制；(2)對於地震之災害亦能進一步的評估風險，減少地震對產業與經濟之傷害；(3)對於社會民眾，解釋地震機制與促進社會對斷層與地震的瞭解。
