In this study, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) technology was used with carbon dioxide as the extracting solvent to extract essential oil from Pummelo flowers. The effects of different temperature and pressure conditions on the yield of essential oil were investigated and analyzed. A 32 experimental design method was used in dynamic extraction with temperature conditions set at 40°C, 50°C, 60°C and pressure conditions set at 2000 psi, 3000 psi, and 4000 psi. The extraction flow rate was fixed at 30 NL/hr, and each experiment was repeated three times, resulting in a total of 27 experimental groups. After the experiment, ANOVA two-factor analysis of variance and second-order regression were performed on the experimental data to investigate the impact of various factors on the yield of essential oil and the significance of the interaction between factors. The data was imported into Excel to create a regression line chart and MATLAB was used to create a response surface plot. The optimal temperature and pressure conditions and the optimal yield of essential oil were determined by analyzing the second-order model within the experimental range. Finally, the crude fat rate of Pummelo flower essential oil extracted by SFE was compared with that obtained by Soxhlet extraction to determine if the yields were consistent.
The research results, as analyzed through regression analysis, indicate that at a pressure of 4000 psi and a temperature of 50°C, the maximum estimated yield of 2.16 wt% can be achieved. The analysis reveals that pressure is the most significant factor influencing the yield.
