Adopting post-modern narrative theory, this study aims to explore how live streamers adapt to their careers. The researcher investigated the career development of live streamers, starting with an inquiry into the reasons that motivated them to become live streamers, the nature of their work, the challenges they face in their careers, their coping mechanisms for overcoming these challenges, and their strategies for adaptation. Employing narrative inquiry in qualitative research and conducting semi-structured interviews, the researcher purposively sampled three participants and conducted in-depth interviews. Through revisiting the interview transcripts, employing a holistic-content analysis, and reconstructing the life experiences of the participants, the researcher presents the life stories of the participants and constructs their subjective worlds.

This research recruited three live streamers who possess different talents, utilising cross textual analysis to examine their career adaptation process, as well the stress and emotional hurdles they may encounter at different stages of their careers. The aim of this study is to offer professional helpers a perspective from which they can provide assistance to live streamers. The findings are presented below:

    1.Career Adaptation of Live Streamers
The researcher identified eight stages in the career development of live streamers: (1) exploration, (2) stability, (3) peak, (4) downturns, (5) breaks, (6) returns, (7) adaptation period (8) working as a “slash”. The career of live streamers evolves within this cycle of stages, aligning with the core principles of career construction theory established through post-modern narrative approaches: Career adaptation is no longer viewed as a static concept but rather as an ongoing process that continuously changes and evolves.

2.Workplace Dilemma and Coping Mechanisms of Live Streamers
The researcher observed various emotional hurdles that live streamers may encounter. The primary source of these emotional hurdles stems from the central aspect of their job, which involves managing the emotions of their fans. As a result, live streamers may experience a sense of loss, a lack of control, anxiety, distress and anger. The findings reveal a range of coping mechanisms adopted by live streamers, both positive and negative. Some individuals develop drug and substance dependencies, while others choose to take breaks from live streaming as a form of coping.
