Following changes over multiple eras, the subject of the contemporary “paintings of feminine beauty” is no longer an unvaried theme, in contrast with the traditional works of the early days. The diversity of the current zeitgeist and genres has deeply influenced the artistic climate of today. Many contemporary artists use the illustration techniques in popular culture to introduce innovative elements to the depiction of women in visual art.
The author takes that this dissertation titled “Affections in Flower Meanings”, through its discourse on a series of oil paintings—“Hanayome”, “Morning Flowers”, “Flowers and Animals” and “Floral Patterns”—and the array of female forms, colors, figures and lines therein, will convey the author’s admiration towards flowers and her emotions evoked by the paintings. Additionally, the author comments on artists with women and flowers who influenced herself, and find relevance and obtain from them. The author wishes to have reaped learnings throughout this process and that all viewers will be able to share the same mood and understanding as the author herself.
