This paper discusses the correlation between parental attitudes toward child rearing and 5th and 6th graders self-concept. It also tests the difference between parental attitude and self-concept among children who are in the 5th and 6th grades with different genders, grades, birth order, family structure and parents' academic levels.
According to a survey that sampled 344 students studying in Taipei, data obtained from the questionnaire was analyzed using SPSS statistical methods for analysis. The analysis contained details regarding percentage, frequency distribution, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Scheffé Method, and Pearson's product-moment correlation as statistical methods, the results of this paper are summarized as follows:
First, in the analysis of parental attitudes towards child rearing, the highest scores of the top five in the research is “authoritative” , which indicates that parental attitudes in this study most communicate frequently and take into consideration their child’s thoughts, feelings and opinions.
Second, there is a significant difference in the scale of parental attitudes among gender, grades and father’s academic levels.
Third, there is a significant difference in the scales of students' self-concept among gender, birth order and father's academic levels.
Fourth, some are significantly positive and some are negative correlated among parental child rearing attitudes.
This study focuses on practical applications and research, and it aims to provide specific suggestions and techniques for primary school teachers, parents, counselors and researchers. |
