The author has always had a passion for exploring the intricate properties of color. This strong interest in understanding color has motivated this analytical study. The composition theme of “Non-Physical Colors” was inspired by an in-depth examination of the stylistic expression and color utilization theories of prominent artists in Western art history such as Impressionist artist Claude Monet and Fauvist artist Henri Matisse. This study uses the properties of color to contrast and understand the complex expression and interaction between physical colors and non-physical colors. The author’s composition incorporates key theoretical foundation, stylistic elements and color properties from artists that are representative of their respective art movement. Throughout the author’s compositional process, non-physical colors were used to reinforce aesthetical principles and color pairing. Paying homage to anthropomorphic techniques exemplified by Vincent Van Gogh’s “The Shoes” collection, the author sought to similarly employ personification techniques to express elements from contemporary new age art movements. The author used color transformation to transport subjects, locations and objects from the author’s surroundings into her non-physical color compositions. The compositions resulting from deliberate color pairing and chromatic placement are original journeys on the unbounded expanses of imagination.
