The purposes of this study are to understand the current situation of work stress and sleep quality of workers in Greater Taipei Area and to analyze differences in work stress and the sleep quality of workers with different background variables. Discussions were made regarding the correlation between work stress and sleep quality, and an analysis was conducted on the impact of worker background variables on work stress and sleep quality.
The data were collected and analyzed by investigation method, and the workers in Greater Taipei Area aged 18-65 were enrolled as the research subjects. Among the total of 1,142 responded samples, there were 1,116 valid questionnaires with a valid response rate of 98%. The research tools included Personal Background Data Sheet, Scale of Work Stress, and Scale of Sleep Quality. While SPSS 22.0 was employed for outcome analysis on the data obtained, the methods of descriptive statistics, single sample t-test, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson product moment correlation were adopted for analyses as well. The findings are as follows:
    1. The impact of Personal Background Variables of workers in Greater Taipei Area on “Work Stress”
    (1) Personal Background Variables, including “Age”, “Diseases Status”, and “Working Years” have a significant difference on “Work Stress”.
    (2) Personal Background Variables, including “Education Level”, “Number of Children”, “Working Years”, “Working Hours”, and “Job Category” have a significant difference on “Work Stress”.
    (3) Personal Background Variables, including “Working Area”, “Gender”, “Average Monthly Salary” and “Salary Status” have no significant difference on “Work Stress”.
    2. The impact of Personal Background Variables of workers in Greater Taipei Area on “Sleep Quality”
    (1) Personal Background Variables, including “Age”, “Marital Status”, “Disease Status”, “Number of Children”, “Salary Status”, and “Working Hours” have a significant difference on “Sleep Quality”.
    (2) Personal Background Variables, including “Working Area”, “Gender”, “Education level”, “Working Years”, and “Job Category” have no significant difference on “Sleep Quality”.
    3. There is a significant correlation between “Work Stress” and “Sleep Quality” for workers in Greater Taipei Area
    (1) The “Work Stress” of workers in Greater Taipei Area shows a significant medium positive correlation with “Overall Sleep Quality”, including “Subjective Sleep Quality”, and “Daytime Functional Operation”.
    (2) The “Work Stress” of workers in Greater Taipei Area shows a significant low positive correlation with “Sleep Quality”, including “Sleep Latency”, “Subjective Sleep Quality”, “Sleep Efficiency”, “Sleep Distress”, and “Sleeping with Medication”.
