It is obvious that "anti-State"(anti-China, including anti-R.O.C ) occupies a critical position in Taiwan’s Sunflower Movement, which is different from general characteristics of "color revolution," of which the aim is just anti-government.
This thesis researches into deep causes of Sunflower Movement, consisting of compulsory education, mass media and minority media.
Compulsory education indoctrinates a set of well-designed and artificial concept and mindset to teenagers. It also builds up a new national identity for "the Sunflower Generation". "Taiwan independence" becomes a "certain fact" and the premise of all issues. "The Value of Taiwan" comes to be the best political slogan.
Mass media utilize the artificially established concept and mindset to report news. They also set value-judgement to determine who or what is "good" or "evil", and consolidate Taiwanese people’ viewpoint which holds strong bias against China. The main cause of the Sunflower Movement can be referred to economic interests, legal procedures or terminal values ,and we could found that Taiwan’s Sunflower Movement is actually a "double revolution" that is, anti-KMT and Anti-China in the same time.
Minority media intensify people’s political cognition of anti-Communism and anti-China. They also incite people to demonstrate in the streets and participate into social movements. Street violence committed by the protesters, together with the public opinion warfare waged by the minority media, keeps the whole society in Taiwan always in the state of feverish agitation.
This study concludes that compulsory education sets up the foundation for the social movement; mass media brew the forthcoming storm, and minority media spread the color revolution across the society.
