In recent years, there is a multicultural presence within Taiwan, such as the traditional cuisine from mainland , Southeast Asia and Indian, the immigrant workers from Filipino, and the students from Malaysian. Due to the New Southbound Policy (NSP) promotion plan launched, it enhanced cooperation between Taiwan and Southeast Asia. While the cultural elements of Southeast Asia are constantly pouring in, multicultural elements are also increasing with the movement of the population. These "New Taiwanese" are gradually changing the social environment of Taiwan. Because new immigrants come from different home countries, different growth backgrounds and migration factors, their social capitals are also different. However, they played an important role in Taiwan's human capital and economic capital. To further understand how new immigrants use their own advantages and social resources in Taiwan to change their social class and economic income, we did in-depth interviewed with a number of new immigrants. In this study, all these new immigrants have lived in Taiwan for more than ten years and they have different culture background, such as different country, religion and career. The social resources around us are transformed into the capital to form a competitive advantage. By taking advantages of these epoch-making experiences by new immigrants in Taiwan, this work further explore the process of joining to the society and promote understanding across cultures of Taiwan through the change of Social Capital under the new government policies. This cultural study provided a new insight of how these "New Taiwanese" use their social capital to seize opportunities to strengthen themselves |
