論者曾經指出,「節文」一詞之性質與意涵,常隨時代推移而有所轉變,從先秦時期到兩漢時代,均帶有明顯的規範性意義,認為是合乎人情、事故,並遵循著禮的節制與文飾,故知至少在漢代以前,「節文」此一名詞與「禮」的規範性意義,有著明顯的密切關係。到了晉代,「節文」卻有了新的意涵,亦即除了和「禮」的密切關係之外,「節文」亦適用於規範國家行政體制(如國家官僚結構)相關的制度性規定。 而在唐五代時期的「節文」,雖然在初唐時候大多與禮儀制度相關,但卻帶有更多制度性規定的意義,甚至由過往專門針對禮儀文化的專有名詞,轉為針對一般行政事務及法律規範的用語,在「節文」性質轉變上有其重大的意義。 此後,將「節文」做為一般行政用語或法律用語,屢見不鮮;至唐玄宗開元末期後,有許多例證顯示,「節文」已儼然成為一種獨立且具體的法制性規範了。而此一體制,更盛行於中、晚唐,乃至於五代時期,並進而促成《編敕》類法制文書的出現。 因此,「法制類節文」在唐末五代以迄北宋初期的歷史意義,值得深究;本研究計畫即擬在前人的研究基礎上,進一步深入分析唐、五代「法制類節文」的實際性質及其歷史意義。

Since then, it is not uncommon to use "Jiewen" as a general administrative or legal term. By the end of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, there are many examples showing that "Jiewen" has become an independent and specific legal norm. And this system prevailed in the middle and late Tang Dynasty, and even in the Five Dynasties period, and further contributed to the emergence of legal documents such as " Compile edicts"(). Therefore, the historical significance of "legal texts" in the period of change from the late Tang and Five Dynasties to the beginning of the Northern Song Dynasty is worthy of in-depth study; this research project is to further analyze the "legal system Jiewen " of the late Tang and Five Dynasties on the basis of previous studies.
