Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) composed three violin sonatas, "Violin Sonata No. 1 in G major, Op. 78", "Violin Sonata No. 2 in A major, Op. 100", and "Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Op. 108".
"Violin Sonata No. 2 in A major, Op. 100" is the shortest among the three works. It contains warm and sweet melody, which is his most lyrical composition.
This thesis is divided into five chapters: the first chapter is an introduction, which explains the purpose and method of the research; the second chapter is the creative background of "Violin Sonata No. 2 in A major, Op. 100"; the third chapter is music analysis, which divides the three movements into three sections for discussion; the fourth chapter is about performance skills and interpretation, and this chapter also discusses the three movements separately; the fifth chapter is the conclusion, which makes the final statement of the results of this research, summarizes the performance skills which improved by studying this composition, and interprets the musical expression of this composition.
