本研究では、近代国家の成り立ち―特に国家（state）を支える国民共同体．国民（nation）の起源－について議論したい。ネイションとは、近代において国家の下に人々を動員すべくつくられた「想像の政治共同体」（imagined political community）に由来するものであり、ポスト近代における政治．経済のグローバル化の進展によって、いつかは無力化すると考えられていた。だが、逆にグローバル化に反発するように、各地で原理主義や自立要求に基づく社会運動が頻発し、依然としてネイションは存在感を失わないままでいる。このようなネイションの未来像の揺らぎは、そのままその起源にも揺らぎを引き起こすことになる。そこで、本研究では「日本」のネイションの起源をめぐる研究に学び、新たな知見を示したい。
本研究所討論的議題為近代國家的成立。特別是支撐國家的國民共同體／國民（nation）的起源。現代社會中，國家為了動員底下的人民，創造出「想像的政治共同體」（imagined political community）。nation即源自於此概念。隨著後現代社會政治和經濟的全球化，nation被認為會逐漸式微。但實際的發展卻出人意料。彷彿是對全球化的反動般，各地頻繁發生基於基本教義和自立要求的社會運動，顯示nation依然存在。這些變化除了對當初的預想產生動搖外，對於nation的起源也造成同樣的衝擊。本研究以「日本」為例，深入探討nation的起源。│This study discusses the establishment of modern countries, especially the origin of nation which supports a state. The concept of ＂nation＂ is originated from the ＂imagined political community＂ referring to the people that can be mobilized under a modern country. As the development of political economic globalization since post-modern, it is considered the idea of nation will be neutralized. However, as if there is a backlash of globalization, social movements based on fundamentalism or request for independence occur frequently everywhere. Existence of ＂nation＂ seems to remain as before. And the fluctuation of the future image of nation also shakes the root of its origin. This research then will consider the origin of a nation by examining the case in Japan.
