Business operators often emphasis on the construction and maintenance of the corporate’s data center, which documents the details and operational resources of the company. Such emphasis thereafter necessitates a more systematic and far-sighted approach in the planning process of construction and maintenance across varying business industries. Over the years, scholars have examined several factors such as the electrical system, the air-conditioner system and the operational maintenance of data centers. This essay thus seeks to close the gap by investigating the principal determinant of the construction and operational maintenance of data centers. Specifically, analysis is performed based on data cross referenced from existing research papers and semi-structured interviews conducted. A total of six systems were assessed through a set of eighteen questions for the respondents. Through the utilization of Kano’s model, information derived from the interviews were scrutinized and codified to examine the relationship between the factors involved and relevant impacts on the construction and maintenance of data center. These results are then evaluated to propose modifications to the current system imposed in the data center with the aim of obtaining a more-energy efficient method. With the adoption of energy conservation method, business operators are then able to operate with reduced cost of production.
The key research objects selected are data center staff working in the government sector, individuals from financial organizations, maintenance staff and sales managers from six varying industries. All these research objects are equipped with eighteen years of working experience in order to provide a more cohesive and expertise stand on the different factors involved.
Through synthesizing the interview responses and codified data based on Kano’s model, this paper aims to identify the main factors concerning the construction and maintenance of data centers. Additionally, this paper serves as an operational guideline available for business operators, maintenance staff and managers of data centers. With such guideline implemented, data centers control and maintenance management can be completed safely through a more efficient and energy saving method, thus conserving energy and reducing the cost of production in the long run.
