The current public awareness of rights is on the rise, and with the non-profit organizations and the government strongly advocating improper family violence, victims are more willing to ask for help. According to relevant statistics, within the violent cases, half are marital violence. There is also a large amount of domestic research on the issue of marital violence. On the contrary, in the relationships with marital violence, most of the literature on the study of the spouses remains in the study of the representation of violent behaviors and the prevention of the recurrence of violence, and easily ignores the internal emotional process of the spouse in the marital relationship or neglects the spouse’s reaction of loss towards the marital change. If the spouse is not properly assisted to face the process of loss, during the process, it will be difficult for the spouse to see his or her own state and, thus, change his or her behavior. Therefore, this study intends to delve deeply into how spouses face marital conflict and change, as well as the feeling of loss, through narrative research, and help the spouses to become aware of themselves during the process of narration. The spouses of two middle-aged men are the subjects of this study and two one-on-one in-depth interviews are conducted. Through discussions with co-analysts and advisors, according to the “holistic-content” analysis method of narrative inquiry and combining the principle of the grounded theory, we came up with related meaningful units, and, respectively, named them and generalized them into core themes. Then analysis was conducted for the individual analytical content after they were compiled. More will be explained below. The results of the study are split into the exploration of the marital conflicts and the process of loss of the two research participants. And according to the course of marriage of the research participants, the themes were named “Acquaintance before Marriage,” “Quarrels after Marriage,” “From Quarrels to Violence,” and “Change in the Course of Marriage after the Use of Violence.” Through conversing with the literature and cross-case analysis, we generalized and got “Factors of the Formation of Male Violence in Marriage,” “Change in Marriage after the Use of Violence,” “Emotional Journey Facing Marital Change,” and “Process of Loss Faced by the Spouses of Men in Divorce,” etc., and included these into the reflection of the researchers. Lastly, according to the discussion of the research results, the conclusions and recommendations of this study are then proposed.
