My research project employs the notion of “Shanzhai Gender/Sexual Modularization” so as to investigate“cyberyaoes” and their “yaokes” in the Pearl River Delta, China. It looks into the complicated socio-cultural contexts from and within which the cyberyao phenomena arose and into the hierarchy yaoes have constitute in cyberspace/time. It also tries to provide critical accounts of how and why disadvantaged yaoes overcome their shortage on cybertechnology so that they become able to solicit in cyberspace/time and of how and why yaoes and yaokes through their interactions produce a variety of erotic film clips which may deepen our understanding of pornography. Moreover, it explores how yaokes tell their sexual stories and what these stories are about. My research project employs a qualitative research approach with a combination of off-line in-depth interview, online participant observation and online text analysis.
