宗教民俗廟會活動在臺灣地區，每逢民俗節日或是神明誕生日都會在廟宇廣場上和大街小巷中看到繞境的隊伍。受到這種在地的「神聖經驗」所感動，深入研究在中西藝術史上以宗教民俗活動為題材的藝術品。本論文從上古洞窟藝術（Cave art）一路追蹤到法國寫實主義（Realism）找出許多相關藝術作品，為創作現代宗教民俗畫，建立創作學理基礎。
在美學風格創建上，筆者試圖從現代繪畫中，例如：碎形幾何做出重複堆疊的複雜構圖，用高明度、高彩度描繪出臺灣宗教名俗活動的熱鬧與歡樂。筆者這一系列的「現代宗教民俗畫創作」，盡量鉅細靡遺地描繪臺灣宗教信仰的無形文化資產，藉本系列發現值得保存的臺灣在地特色。
