A novel single-yarn H2 gas sensor was fabricated by self-assembling the poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH), poly(styrenesulfonic acid) sodium salt (PSS), graphene oxide (GO) and Pd-based complex thin films layer-by-layer on a single yarn and then reducing in-situ Pd-based complex thin film to Pd/GO/PAH/PSS/PAH multilayer thin film. Microstructural observations revealed that Pd thin film formed on the surface of the GO film. Pd thin film played an important role in the response of H2-gas sensing. The single-yarn H2 sensor that was made of Pd/GO/PAH/PSS/PAH multilayer thin film had a high performance with strong response, high linearity, good stability and high flexibility at room-temperature. A reasonable H2 gas-sensing mechanism of the single-yarn H2 gas sensor was proposed. The fast Fourier transform (FFT) was used to discriminate a single-yarn H2 gas sensor upon bending and humidity influence.
