The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of β-alanine supplement on post exercise performance and their antioxidant ability of rowing athletes. Twenty-two high school rowing athletes were recruitedn the S-type distribution method, and were assigned to two groups: β-alanine (n=10) and placebo (n=12). Four weeks of supplement test were conducted on both groups. All participants performed graded exercise loading test and 3-min all-out rowing tests before and after the 4-week supplement test. The result shows that no significant differences were found on athletes' post exercise performance (end-test power, work done above the end-test power, max, Lactic acid) or their antioxidant ability (Malondialdehyde, Superoxide dismutase) at pre- or post-supplementation between two groups (p>.05). Four-week β-alanine supplement improves neither the athletes' performance nor their antioxidant ability. Future studies could investigate the effects of supplement with longer period of time.
