Insect gall is a very special case of the extended phenotypes. The development of galls depend on the host plant tissue, but the regulation mechanism is affected by insects. Our pervious study used NGS to analysis transcriptome de novo sequencing on galls. The results showed that there were 863 differently expressed genes, including cell wall synthesis, plant growth hormone, photosynthesis, secondary metabolism, Tetraploid pyrrole synthesis and plant stress. In addition, small molecular metabolites were found in the galls and leaves in Machilus japonica. The results showed several small molecular compounds in gall tissues and leaves, which were worthy of further sampling for more metabolites. This project will use the RT-qPCR, biochemistry and metabolome in research of the gene expression, physiological differences, metabolic changes and natural constituents of gall and leaves at different development stages.
