This study explores how female survivors of domestic violence in childhood had moved on from violent experience to recovery, as well as the impact of violent experience on career development and their resilience as helping workers. This study adopted narrative research method, and collected the experience of violence, internal pain recovery, career development and resilience path of the three research participants through in-depth interviews. Two parts of research results have been found. The first part focuses on the experience of violence and the process of recovery transformation: 1. The negative impact of violent experience is comprehensive, and even different types of survivors could still experience similar shocks. 2. The emergence of violence comes from three aspects: (1) The pressure of life situation, (2) Alcohol factor, (3) The patriarchal supremacy in social culture. In the process of internal recovery transformation, the research participants experienced the emergence of safe space, the development of life support system, emotional catharsis and healing, the enhancement of self-worth, the opening of new frames, the reconciliation of relationships, and the emergence of meaning pursuit from the past experience of violence. However, the recovery is a repeated process that may occur simultaneously rather than a change from a single phase. The second part focuses on the impact from the experience of violence on the career and the career resilience of the helping workers. The research found that the experience of violence has laid the foundation for the career path and provided the answers and new perspectives toward the past hurts in the professional training. However, when encountering a client who is similar to oneself in a professional field, the experience of past violence has made the participant face the challenge of countertransference. In addition, whether leaving the original position or transferring to other helper areas, the stage of self-organizing and healing are all started, and the participant has continued to devote deeply to the field of helping profession. |
