This study explored the therapeutic effect of aromatherapy on professional women’s stress regulation. This study adopted an experimental design and used aromatherapy interventions on the daily life of 30 full-time professional women with high stress perceptions. The experimental design involved using a Chinese 14-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) to measure the participants’ perceived stress score. Those who scored higher than 43 points were the main participants, who were asked to complete the scale again after receiving aromatherapy. Through organization of the questionnaire responses and pretest and posttest data, we analyzed, organized, and discussed the data to generate results and suggestions. The research instruments were Chinese 14-item PSS and World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF). Changes in perceived stress and quality of life (including comprehensive quality of life, comprehensive quality of health, physical health, psychological health, social relationships, and environment) before and after the aromatherapy intervention were compared. The statistical data were analyzed using a paired t test. The results revealed that (a) the pretest and posttest difference in terms of perceived stress score reached significance (t=10.91, p < .001) and (b) the pretest and posttest difference in terms of quality of life reached significance (t = −2.75, p < .010). The results suggested that aromatherapy helped alleviate perceived stress and improve quality of life. This study recommended that relevant governmental agencies provide forums related to aromatherapy to promote the methods helping professional women regulate their stress, thereby reducing social problems resulting from stress.
