The cross-strait issue has become an important indicator and its impact on elections as a regular basis because of the democratization of general elections in Taiwan.
This study aims to explore whether the "cross-strait factors" still influence in the 2016 presidential election, and to verify the factors affecting the election result through literature discussion and statistical model analysis methods.
After reviewing the relevant literature, the author observes the cross-strait factors influence to Taiwan voting behavior by designing the four factors of the cross-strait factors, including the 1992 Consensus, the 2015 Ma –Xi meeting, the judgment on the future cross-strait relations and the economic effects of cross-strait economic and trade exchanges.
Furthering compare with the impact of the "92 Consensus" on the two general elections in 2012 and 2016, this study indicates that the 2016 voters in Taiwan are more aware of the "92 Consensus" as a label of economic implications and more the middle voters chose to vote for the Kuomintang because of the "cross-strait economy" and the "92 Consensus".
