Due to the development and innovation of technology, the economic value derived from the use of patent knowledge has become one of the key factors for economic growth. Through patent analysis, we can have a preliminary understanding of the development direction of the country’s industry and the development of industrial technology, which is one of the important indicators. With the advancement of science and technology, patent inventors, through the cooperation of transnational patents, can not only enhance the nation’s innovation ability, but also acquire more resources and increase competitiveness. By using social network analysis, this study is to understand the changing characteristics of inter-city and international collaboration and the properties of Taiwanese inventors participating in U.S. semiconductor patenting in 2003, 2009, and 2015. The goal is to explore Taiwan’s long-term strategies for the semiconductor growth and industrial development. The research results show that Taiwan’s major cooperating countries in the semiconductor industry are the United States, China, and Singapore; the main cooperative metropolitan areas are the San Francisco, New York, and Guangzhou metropolitan areas. However, the trend of cooperation in Taiwan tends to focus on domestic cross-border cooperation. It shows that the flow and dissemination of knowledge are free of geographical boundaries, but Taiwan still has room for improvement in international cooperation.
