The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of ear point pressing on exercise induced physiological responses.
Twelve healthy male university students served as subjects. Each subject performed two separate 15-minute treadmill runnings of 75% VO2max.with and without ear points pressing respectively.
Lung points, liver points, subcortex points, Endocrine points, and Triple Burner points on both ears were pressed by using ”Emplanting seeds” during 20th-25th and5th-10th minutes before exercise, and 5th-10th minutes post exercise.
Physiological variables including heart rate, VO2, blood lactate and rate of perceive exertion were collected and analyzed with repeated t-test. The results obtained from this study were as follows:
    1. Ear points pressing significantly increased oxygen consumption at rest, during and post exercise.
    2. Ear points pressing significantly decreased resting heart rate while no significant difference of responses were found during and post exercise.
    3. Ear points pressing significantly lowered blood lactate and rate of percived exertion responses following exercise.
The results indicated that ear points pressing increased resting and submaximal oxygen consumption, so that blood lactate accumulation decreased following exercise and exercises were completed easier.
