    Abstract: В статье дана характеристика основных этапов развития русистики на пятом континенте, начиная с 1946 г. и до начала XXI века, показан вклад русских иммигрантов в становление преподавания русского языка в австралийских университетах, выявлены причины снижения в Австралии интереса к изучению русского языка в последние годы.
    This article characterizes the main stages of the Russian language's study at the fifth continent since 1946 until the beginning of the XXI century. The author shows the contribution of Russian immigrants in the formation and development of Russian language teaching in Australian universities and analyzes the reasons for the decline of the Australians interest in the Russian language at the present time.
