    摘要: 茅草類植物，在一般生活當中有三種統稱的名稱：茅草、芒草、蘆葦，然而人們往往以通稱來指稱此類禾本科植物，並未特別區分其間差異，但在原住民族文化與知識系統中，卻是不可或缺的要角，從語言的翻譯結果來看，雖然原住民族對於茅草類植物的翻譯，大部分只有白茅（茅草）和芒草的分別，但在母語當中，往往有不一樣的指涉名稱；且使用於不同的時機與場合，除了普遍作為房舍建材以外，還有許多因族群而異的用途，尤其是在各類儀典當中，可見茅草類植物在原住民族文化中的重要性，實不亞於小米。本文試圖以中研院所翻譯的《蕃族調查報告書》作為資料核心，整理原住民族文化中的茅草類植物敘述，加以整理歸納，以窺原住民族茅文化所呈現的各項特質。
    Phragmites australis in general has three different names: phragmites australis, Chinese silvergrass and common reed. People often refer to these plants as poaceae instead of recognizing each of them as an individual species. However, in the study of Taiwanese aborigines' culture and knowledge system, it is important to differentiate them. Based on the translation, the aborigines divides phragmites australis into two categories: cogongrass and Chinese silvergrass. However, in their original dialect, different varieties of phragmites australis have different names; are used during different times and under different circumstances. In addition to their common use as house construction materials, different ethnical groups have different use for phragmites australis; especially in spiritual ceremonies. Therefore, the role of phragmites australis in Taiwanese aborigines' culture is as significant as grain. This article based its research on the translated version of ＂An Investigation of the Aborigines in Taiwan＂ by the Academia Sinica combined with organized oral descriptions of the usage of Phragmites australis in the aboriginal culture. It is meant to provide a window into the different characteristics of the aboriginal phragmites australis culture.
