This study investigated the “self-concept”, “participation motivation”, and “needs satisfaction” of volunteers for non-profit organizations in Greater Taipei Area. Differences across “demographic variables” and the correlations between self-concept, participation motivation, and needs satisfaction were analyzed.
The questionnaire survey method was adopted. The subjects were volunteers currently working for non-profit organizations in Greater Taipei Area. Based on purposive sampling, a total of 460 questionnaires were distributed. Excluding invalid responses, 441 valid responses were collected. The goal of the survey was to examine if volunteers’ “self-concept”, “participation motivation”, and “needs satisfaction” would vary significantly by gender, age, area of residence, education degree, marital status, employment status, religious belief, and volunteering experience as well as whether the three dimensions were significantly correlated. The research instrument consisted of four components, including “personal data questionnaire”, “self-concept questionnaire”, “participation motivation questionnaire”, and “needs satisfaction questionnaire”. The collected responses were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 for Windows using methods including descriptive statistics, independent-sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé post-hoc comparison, and Pearson product-moment correlation. The results were as follows:
1. The “self-concept”, “participation motivation”, and “needs satisfaction” of volunteers for non-profit organizations in Greater Taipei Area were all above the intermediate level.
2. Among the volunteers for non-profit organizations in Greater Taipei Area, “self-concept” varied at .05-.001 significantly by gender, area of residence, education degree, marital status, employment status, and volunteering experience; “participation motivation” varied at .05-.001 significantly by education degree, employment status, and volunteering experience; “need satisfaction” varied at .05-.001 significantly by area of residence, education degree, marital status, employment status, and religious belief.
3. Among the volunteers for non-profit organizations in Greater Taipei Area, “self-concept”, “participation motivation”, and “needs satisfaction” were best significantly and positively correlated.
Based on the above findings, this study provided suggestions for government departments, non-profit organizations and volunteers with regard to recruitment of volunteers. |
