The purpose of this research is to realize the cooperative relationship between contents and photographs of news in the Great East Japan Earthquake. By means of analyzing the texts and photos, this research aims to investigate the reports from the following four print media, which are United Daily News, China News, Liberty Times, and Apple Daily. Additionally this research first took the pictures of news from the Great East Japan Earthquake as the main analysis objective, then the text content as the secondary.
This research conducted a qualitative method to investigate whether the photos from the news report is relevant with the test content or not, and to make use of textual analysis and discourse analysis for research instruments. Via the sociologist, Matsumoto (2002), who concluded that to explain the photos and illustration of news by the stereotype of Japan, as well as to interpret the illustrations and images by narrative research, this thesis also researched the differences from contemporary culture and traditional culture of Japan.
The results of study showed that the newspapers in Taiwan are used to present this disaster report by taking the illustration with single image. Furthermore, the four main newspapers even used the pictures taken from the foreign media. In the reports of this natural disaster, the newspapers seems to conform to the pictures of disaster by foreign media, journalists tend to use the compiled reports, and sometime it’s happened that the title and photos doesn’t match with words.
The finding also showed that when interviewing the people affected from disaster or the victims, the news written from journalist who reporting live at a scene always not only used the content from the interviewed victims and showed the pictures related with text report, also part of content and pictures are so much as taking by themselves. Additionally, Apple Daily has the most SNG reports of victims. |
