Abstract:	本文旨在探討近代都市發展的課題，從交通運輸的觀點來分析，發現世界各大都市的發展朝向汽車導向發展模式(automobile-oriented development city, AOD)，違背了都市永續發展的概念，其中以美國最為嚴重，台灣各大都市也是如此，又作者以訪問博士生之身分，於美國the University of Texas at Austin 建築學院研究，從Austin城市之規劃與學術部門中，得知一個AOD城市，如何從都市交通與發展的混亂，透過大眾運輸導向發展(transit-oriented development, TOD)的計畫，讓Austin進展到都市具有共同目標與和諧發展的情境，緣此，本文將介紹Austin從「混亂到共和的經驗」，並從中找出可供台灣都市參考之策略。
