In order to understand the influence of weather on the growth of corn, cultivar Tainung 351 was planted during 1984 and 1985. The black polyethylene net of 35% and 65% porosity were used in cornfield for shading treatment. A micrometeology observation system was used to measure the alteration of micrometeorology in shading area. The shading treatment did not decrease the air temperature of shading area, but decreased the soil temperature and soil heat flux, and increased the soil moisture of shading area. The plant height, stock weight, root weight and ear product of corn in shading area were decreased as the result of the change of micrometeorology induced by shading treatment. Meanwhile, plants in shading area were easy to lodge. The results indicated that the shading treatment not only reduced solar radiation and soil temperature but let to weak development of stems and roots.
