This study is an assessment of potential recreational value for ecotourism at three neighboring aboriginal communities, Lun-Pi, Song-Luo, Ying-Shih in Datong Township of Yilan County. There were 593 valid questionnaires acquired through tourists surveyed during the summer vacation in 2010. Recreational values were measured by way of travel cost method (TCM). On the whole, the average compensation variation (CV) for each tourist was about 735 NT dollars. Three communities were also dividedly estimated and got the average compensation variation (CV) for each tourist as follows: 711 NT dollars at Lun-Pi, 643 NT dollars at Song-Luo, and 1,038 NT dollars at Ying-Shih. ANOVA analysis for different recreational values among three communities showed the F value is 2.011 (P=0.135), It was obviously that there is no significant difference on recreational values of tourists among the three communities. This result suggested that the three communities may cooperate partially based on a consensus of resources integration and benefit sharing. The cooperation will not only to prevent excessive development as well as irrational competition, but also to avoid duplication of recreation services resources. Than the quality of tourist services should be enhanced while developing as a regional ecotourism site.
