Abstract: Pole vault is one of the track and field events that requires many functional movements to execute the performance. The purpose of pole vault is jump high using fiberglass pole. Pole vaulters should transfer horizontal energy made by run-up phase to vertical energy to make their body jump-up with the pole. Pole vaulters should have requisite factors such as speed of sprint, jump technique, coordination, controlled rhythm, strength of upper body in a short amount of time while maintaining precise execution of the skill. Pole vault movement can be generally divided into run-up, take-off, pole bending, and pole straightening phases. Each phase demands different muscular system such as deep longitudinal subsystem (DLS), lateral subsystem (LS), anterior oblique subsystem (AOS), and posterior oblique subsystem (POS). This article will address the annual training program for national intercollegiate athletic games in Taiwan through effective training methods based on muscular system.
